There has been a lot of activity on social media recently about the Cracker Barrel rebrand which was led by Chief Executive Officer Julie Masino. Personally, I do not see what the big deal is, however it’s clearly rubbing some people the wrong way and has even led to Donald Trump Jr. giving his thoughts.

As a European, I could care less about US politics, however similar to my post in June regarding going long Kering (it’s up 25%+ since then) I am getting a feeling that there are some underlying issues where this backlash about the “rebrand” may kick things over the edge. As Stanley Druckenmiller has said:

“Act first, research later. Markets move quickly, ideas spread fast, especially good ones, so it pays to get positioned. You can always exit if your research changes the story.”

I’m short Cracker Barrel, here’s why.
