Even though I am European, several of my American followers have asked if I could put together some ideas as a gift guide for Father’s Day since it’s coming up in the US.
Hermès Cravate – You cannot go wrong with this. The expert hands of Hermès’ Lyon craftsmen have carried out the different stages of manufacturing this tie since 1949 with 100% silk twill tie and assembled by hand.
Like many of you, my Papa likes to dress up and still occasionally goes into the office to check on his business even though he is removed from it. There are many colours to choose from (I personally like the light blues and orange). 235€
Maison Goyard Saint-Pierre Card Wallet – From what I have observed in America, many men especially older ones carry bulky, folded wallets. Help your father out and purchase him a fashionable, slim wallet that also has space for a bit of cash. 620€ (approximately)
Golden Goose Super-Star Sneakers – Upgrade your father from the chunky New Balance look, Loro Piana loafers, Gucci/Ferragamo loafers etc. to something a bit more fashion forward that he will most likely not purchase for himself. Available in a number of color combinations, Golden Goose Super-Stars pair well with a number of clothing combinations and can be worn at a variety of occasions. I have seen a number of men, my father’s age, wearing these at my Country Club and they seem to be gaining traction with men of that age in Europe! 450€
Waterman Fountain Pen – If your father is signing a lot of documents or is always looking for something to write with, Waterman is a Parisian-inspired brand with more than 130 years of history. Each of their writing tools is hand-assembled and tested by a brand expert: from checking the smoothness of each nib to ensuring that the quality of each piece is beyond magnificent. Waterman defines elegance as the perfect balance between beauty and innovation, and this is perfectly reflected in each of its pieces. 600€
Blanton’s Original Bourbon – If your father enjoys a drink after work during the weekend Blanton’s Bourbon is always a hit. Blanton’s came onto the market in 1984 and is a tribute to Colonel Albert B. Blanton. 120€
Rare Books – When I was a child, my Papa used to read books to me, and I continue to love reading to this day. My favorites were Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Captains Courageous and Moby Dick. I found a great rare bookstore in London and purchased one of the first additions of Captain’s Courageous which is very special to both of us. 200€ - 10.000+€
A Trip or Experience – I put a very high value on experience with people I am close to. I think Jack Whitehall’s: Travels With My Father is very funny and something that if given the opportunity you should do with your father at least once. It doesn’t have to be as long of a trip as Jack’s, however go to that dream sporting event, take that sailing trip you’ve been talking about for years or visit the city that you two have always discussed!
I hope this is helpful and feel free to leave any feedback!
